West Side Story (2021 Spielberg adaptation modern Romeo/Juliet classic '57 Broadway & '61 award winning film musical)

A casting call has gone out confirming Spielberg's interest in re-adapting the Broadway musical (based on Romeo and Juliet) that has previously been adapted cinematically over half a century ago to great acclaim

It had been previously rumoured that his next film would be Indy 5 or this
Maybe "this" won out

This was the first musical I saw at the theatre and I've had a life long love affair with it ever since. I'm pretty excited to see this. Was also hoping to get to New York to see the new revival on Broadway, but COVID shut that down pretty quick.

I hope this lives up to the trailer.

Even though this remake of a masterpiece will not have any IMAX aspect ratios of 1.43 to 1 or 1.90 to 1, it was still formatted and optimized for IMAX. I may have to see it specifically at the Cinesphere just because I can't think of a theatre in the GTA that will have better picture/sound quality for this musical.

I never appreciated this movie and never understood how others found it interesting, sort of the same with the classic movie for the ages "Gone with the Wind".

Just shows how we can all have different tastes when it comes to entertainment, the world would be a poorer place to live if we all liked the same things.

That said i'll still give it a watch, maybe it will surprise me.....

Would definitely be at this free screening if it was downtown instead of Mississauga. I'm a big fan of the Oscar winning 1961 film.

Based on the trailer, Zegler's Puerto Rican accent is bad, really bad. It reminds me of Mastrantonio's Cuban accent in Scarface. Fricken bad.

How Spielberg thought it was passable is a mystery to me.

Too bad it's flopping at the box office. I really enjoyed it yesterday plus the Cineplex bogo offer really makes it even sweeter.

Need to squeeze this and the next movie in before Omicron sets in.
