There’s always deals with flights to Hawaii. That’s the easy part lol

Everything else is expensive but I love it there.

Thanks. I see it on their website now.

Follow up question - I went to cancel my booking from yesterday where I paid mostly on Visa but also used some WJ dollars. It said the Visa refund would be instant but the WJ dollars could take up to 45 days to be recredited. Anyone have any experience with this? Obviously I’d like to use the WJ dollars again immediately to rebook at the lower price.

We are planning a trip to Honolulu, then going to one of the other islands.

If we had to choose between Maui or Big Island (with volcanoes)? Which one is best for beaches and snorkeling?

Your dollar will go much farther on Big Island right now, the tourism bottom line was drastically affected by the volcano erupting earlier this year.

Big Island has some incredible beaches including Hapuna Beach up north of Kona and Mauna Kea Beach Look at Waikoloa Beach Resort for places to stay, look at the Kings Land condos within the grounds of the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort-really great value if you are looking at higher end places to stay on a budget

Maui has a variety of decent beaches but it has never been my favorite island for that - Look up Kapalua Bay, Makena and DT Flemming

Snorkelling is good on both islands,

Thanks OP. Just booked 2 tickets from YYZ-HNL return $911. ($455 each), Dec. 8 to 13. Cheaper than going to FL.

Thanks for the advice!

Is the vog / air quality of Big Island an issue? I have been readings lots of reports of vog and respiratory concerns even for western sides (Waikoloa and Kailua-Kona) on Tripadvisor

What is Maui good for then?

Hotels are expensive.

Airbnb is cheaper.

But Hawaii is expensive in general.

Yup. I still remember paying $18 for a bowl of pho in Honolulu. Booze is cheap though. Surfing on a stomach full of $2 My Thais is a great life lesson.

Big Island is nice, but not a place to spend a week in IMO. One will get bored fast... unless all you want to do is hit the beach I guess, that said it's also one of the least inhabited of the islands for obvious reasons and it's nice and quiet there.
