[WestJet] WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard plus Silver Status

Seems like WestJet has teamed up with Rewards Canada so that you can get Silver Status for a year upon approval

EDIT 6/20: now offered through greedyrates http://www.greedyrates.ca/blog/best-cre ... june-2017/

Hot deal considering you generally can't get FYF with this card. Normally, you require $3000 flight spend to reach Silver Status

Advantages of Silver Status:
Free first bag
3% earn rate of WestJet dollars when you fly WestJet
1% earn rate when you book and travel on WestJet Vacations package
4 lounge vouchers
4 pre-reserved seat vouchers

I never said that it was. I'm saying the Silver Status offsets the annual fee

This card is great if you have any intention of flying with Westjet in the coming year. I don't think I've ever seen it offered with any additional incentive like this. Yes, it has a $99 annual fee including the first year, but that is easily covered with one trip's worth of free baggage for 2 people. Then the $250 Westjet dollars and the companion flights are basically free. I signed up for this card a couple of years ago, and used the companion flight to save $400 on a flight to San Francisco for my wife while using the $250 Dollars towards my ticket.

Are companions allowed to come in as a guest with you? Or does that use up an extra lounge pass of the four offered?

How long does Silver Status last for? 1 calendar year from the time your account is opened?
The blog page says it will expire May 31, 2018

I'm not familiar with WS Rewards... can anyone advise as to whether you can get the WS Dollars and keep them even after you close the CC account? Or is it like Amex where the MR account closes when you close your card?

Unfortunately not... I just confirmed with their chat rep. But I wonder if you can just apply for another card and cancel the old one...

You can keep them. I still have $150 left from my initial signup 2 years ago, and I cancelled within the first year . They are tied to your Westjet Rewards account, which means that they expire 5 years after acquiring them.

this card is awesome if you are in a westjet hub. we are a family of 4 and this card saved 200$ in bag fees alone for our family in 1 flight.

not to mention the 99$ companion reward each year.
