What’s a good external drive you recommend for photo editing?

Looking to use it to house raw files and the Lightroom catalogue. Basically working off that drive.

Any drive should be fine. Media files, RAW Images are normally large, so even a SMR drive will work.

If working off that drive I'd recommend an external SSD.

Lightroom will perform horribly if its catalog and preview caches are on an SMR drive. This rules out most ready-made external drives as they are almost invariably SMR.

Use either an SSD or build your own external using a CMR/PMR 3.5" HDD (such as a WD Red Plus) and a high-quality enclosure.

All in-production 2.5" hard drives are SMR. If you need more space than you can afford on an SSD, the only option is a 3.5" drive.

An SSD ideally connected with a Thunderbolt or USB4.

Basically something as fast as possible.
