what do you seal the gap between the door frame and the laminate floor with?

There was some caulk-looking white stuff that used to cover the gap between the door frame and the laminate floor before,
but it was done really messily.
So I got rid of it. But the handyman that came to my suite told me that I shouldn't use caulk to cover the gap, since laminate floors tend to shrink?
Anyway if there's some product to cover the gap between the wooden frame and the floor, please let me know.
