Why though? Why risk damaging the interior of a 2-yo car when you can always have it delivered or ask a buddy/rent a truck for those kind of hauling.

I agree, it greats that it fits, but sometimes is just better to "call a friend".

I am lucky because my brother leases a pickup truck for his business. He drives a GMC Denali with the long bed. Great vehicle.

So I cannot fit anything in my car, but I can always borrow his truck.

Hope you didn't hard brake while doing that - that is going to punch right through the front wind shield.

I'm more impressed by the fact that lumber likely amounted to $200 with the prices these days..

The editor of Car & Driver was once asked if he could only own one vehicle for all-purpose use, what would it be? He said Ferrari. When he needs extra hauling, towing, or seating capacity, he has no shortage of friends who would love to swap vehicles for a day.

Hopefully you secured the load. Just in case you need to do a panic stop and the wood doesn't go flying forward through your Windshield.

I rented an engine hoist and packed it into my '77 Honda Civic. Packed the big beam just like the lumber in the OP's pic. Had to make a sudden stop and the beam slid forward...landing on the gas pedal. I think the tachometer read about 6,500rpm. what can I say, I was 17...

Seems like less Darwinism since you can tie them to roof rack. But whatever float your boat.

My dad had transported 2x4x8 in a Taurus before thru the rear window when I was a kid. Me sitting the backseat hold them down. :D

Bought a used electric fireplace a few weeks ago. Fit nicely into the CRV.

I used to put 12' ABS pipes in my Chrysler LHS and close the trunk. NO problem!

Now the best I can do is a 75" TV in my Model 3........an 82" TV likely won't fit.

I was thinking that the lumber might be more valuable than the car with current pricing craziness.

One of the reasons I have an 2016 Odyssey is to fit 10ft lumber easily by just removing the two front and mid center consoles. Cannot do that in the redesign as they made the front console fixed... cannot understand why.
Oh yea the kids are the other reason ;) close second.

Once you own a minivan and you do a lot of home diy it's amazing I never have to think.. well maybe for something really big ..but those items are usually free delivery.

Yesterday at HD doing a store pickup I saw a guy and his buddy trying to get a fairly mid size bbq into an S-class Merc.. I offered to help him out since he was close by but told them they can't come with me (due to u know) .... just load it and unload it at the destination .. he refused.. guess he thought I'd run away with his bbq.

04 Focus station wagon...dozen of trips utilizing all the vehicles payload each trip to move pavers. 500sq-ft worth of artificial turf more bulky than anything. I strapped lumber to the roof because it had functional OEM roof rails + cross bars. Half the SUV's I see have fake roof rails, no cross bars. lmao

05 Civic coupe - I can get a wheelbarrow in there. I had 14 wheels in there (my tire guy was so impressed he knocked $20 off) .

07 Honda Fit - I "fit" one of those rectangular chest freezers straight in to the rear hatch, like a glove. My favourite compact car. Such a good car. Pretty much a microvan with some clever "magic" seats.

01 Integra - took the passenger front seat out. Insane amount of space. I forget what I did with it all. I could lay down flat and have a nice nap in there.

Now I graduated to a 98 Toyota Sienna. Pulled the seats. Moving/hauling van.
