Tetris
We don't know, so it's possible. And it's possible, so it's probably probable.

Road Rash for Panasonic 3D0.

One of the toys I regret selling/trading. I considered buying the system & game on eBay.

DOOM 2. It made the top 10 ever made software (not games) in some well known publication (but I don't recall which one) some 15 years ago

8 eh? Don't think that would be a popular choice to even be best of the final fantasy series but to each their own!

Tough question and lots of games I was thinking of are already mentioned. Not sure if I can choose one to be the best, but Heroes of Might and Magic 3 definitely ranks up there.

Mario, Tetris, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy (7, 8, and 10 were my favourites)
^ These have to be some of the greatest games ever made.

Even though this isn't one of the 'greatest', Bloody Roar 3 holds a special place in my heart, haha. Spyro and Megaman is in my heart too.

STREET FIGHTER
this game alone spawned many titles and an entire genre of its own.

Well the first one wasn't very good. Controls were very unresponsive. There were fighting game before, but it wasn't until Street Fighter II when the genre really took off. SFII was so far beyond anything else at the time. My personal favorite of the series was Street Fighter Alpha 3. My favorite spin off was Dark Stalkers.

And speaking of all these sequals, why no love for Super Mario Bros 2? Okay yeah, it's probably not going to be anyone's #1 pick and it wasn't really the true successor to Super Mario Bros, but I feel Super Mario Bros 3 wouldn't been as good if they went with the original Super Mario Bros 2 which was really just looked and played like a harder version of the first one. Out of that series Super Mario Bros 3 gets my pick though.

Overall top pick: Tetris.
