EA's NHL game that first appeared on Genesis was certainly ground breaking ...

Tetris. Because in 10, 20 or even 50 years... people will still be playing Tetris.

GTA, ON
I like to say the earlier games that revolutionized the way we see gameplay.

1) Doom 2 (1994)

It was one of the earliest FPS games that allowed you to play MP online with players world-wide. No need to network PCs locally.

2) After that, I'd say GTA:III (2001)

Sandbox fun...

3) Original Super Mario Kart (1992)

Yes, I am getting up there. This thread would be great if we broke it down by generation or decade. lol. The original Prince of Persia on Amiga was pretty ground breaking. Also another fav C64 game was Bruce Lee.

There were some good games back then on the C64. Kung fu, Spy hunter, High Noon, the silly olympics games, lots of simulators.... So much variety and innovation that we simply don't have today - at least not from the big developers.
