What Medical Dramas Do You Watch on TV (or Did You Watch in the Past)?

There's been a lot of discussion on another thread about medical dramas lately. Since I watch a number of them myself, I decided to start a separate thread where we can list our favourite medical dramas and talk about them.

In the recent past, I've been enjoying the Canuck shows "Coroner," "Transplant" and "Nurses." "Nurses" is currently in its second season. If you're missing "Grey's Anatomy," you should try this as it's "Grey's" with the focus on the nurses. Although it's not as good as "Grey's," but very entertaining.

Of the three, I think I like "Coroner" the best. The mysteries are decent and it has a quiet quality, if that makes sense. It's not full of shocking moments (even though there are a few). But instead it concentrates on the characters and the dialogue and the work.

I also watch the U.S. medical quartet of "The Good Doctor," "The Resident," "New Amsterdam" and of course "Grey's Anatomy." They approach similar issues in different ways and I find that interesting. There's terrific acting in all four, in particular I love Freddie Highmore on "The Good Doctor" and also Ryan Eggold on "New Amsterdam," who's had some challenging storylines at the very least. And there's a photo of his character, Max, under "do-gooder" in the dictionary haha. Also, the soundtrack on "New Amsterdam" rocks.

Hopefully others will chime in!

We don't have cable - only OTA and whatever I download....so we don't watch religiously but only catch what we can when watching TV.........

In no particular order - we watch the following:

- Coroner
- The Resident
- Chicago Med
- Transplant
- starting watching a bit of Nurses
- wifey used to watch a lot of Grey's Anatomy

I like all except I don't watch Grey's Anatomy so no comment.....

Have you tried "New Amsterdam" at all? You may like it or you wife would anyway LOL. With your TV situation (OTA etc.) you could find the whole thing in DLs, but more easily perhaps, if you have a VPN -- which I'm guessing you do since you DL -- you could use the 9Now Web site or app from Australia's Nine Network. There's tons of content on that (and the BBC iPlayer, a couple of other Aussie TV sites and TVNZ for that matter) and all are easy to register for. Go to the Channel Nine site: https://www.9now.com.au/new-amsterdam/season-1 and register for an account. You have to be using an Aussie VPN server. Depending on your VPN, one server might work better than another. At any rate, all of "New Amsterdam" is there and with subtitles if you like that. :-)

"New Amsterdam" is about a public hospital in NY that's even connected to a jail. The main character, Max, is hired to run the show. He has a lot of innovative ideas and not everyone approves. Ryan Eggold is terrific as Max, an endlessly positive character. Janet Montgomery from "Salem" and a number of other shows is terrific, as is Tyler Labine. It's a bit different than the other medical dramas in that it does have some humour. It has a lot of clever dialogue and quite a few walk-and-talks through the halls. Plus a percussion-based soundtrack that's quite unique.

Definitely like The Resident as well. It's kind of nice to see some of the business side of the medical field making it's way into these dramas.

Haven't really checked out Chicago Med but really enjoy Chicago Fire. I've only seen the cross over episodes but it seems good. I feel like I haven't seen Oliver Platt since The Three Musketeers or something ridiculous like that.

It is very enjoyable. The cases will become redundant at some point but the characters and plot are going to be interesting.

The Good Doctor (medical accuracy according to a doctor youtube is pretty good)

I think there were some other ones in the past I watched but I can't remember them at this time.
Nothing to see here...keep looking.

I come in to work, that's all I need.
Here is something from today's episode: Me and a colleague spent about 30 minutes trying to capture a fly in OR 6. That's without commercial breaks, and no it was not Jeff Goldblum

How has no one mentioned "The Knick" yet?! It's only two seasons (20 episodes total) and it's one of my favorite TV shows ever! I know it aired on Cinemax so maybe that's why it's not too well known but it's recommended a lot online and that's how I stumbled across it.

That show rocked! I loved it and Clive Owen was awesome. When it was cancelled I was bitter LOL. I was saying on another thread that it has a lot of similarities to "The Alienist" if you haven't seen it. It takes place in the late 19th century and is more about psychiatry (thus the title) than "The Knick" and it's more about hunting for a killer.

I got into Grey's Anatomy a couple of seasons in, but left YEARS ago. I tried ER but could never get into it. I also watched some of Private Practice, but it was eventually cancelled.

FWIW, you might pick "Grey's" up again if you liked it at the beginning. I think a show like that benefits from being a binge watch. I've personally watched and stopped a number of shows and (for whatever reasons) picked them up again. And they were great binge watches. Like "Game of Thrones" and "The Resident" for instance.

Not really OT. It seems like a good segue, considering it starts this week. I'll be watching it due to the cast, but it seems you might not watch. Or yes?
