AT WhAT point are you considered a tenant if you are being assigned a lease?

Good Morning,

I have recently been assigned a lease to an apartment, from the ‘assigner’ whose lease will expire on March 31st, 2021.

I am assuming that due to Quebec’s tenancy laws, my lease will be automatically renewed at that point.

I have already signed the the assignment agreement, but have not yet paid the first month’s rent. I have passed the credit and background checks.

My question is: At what point am I considered a tenant under Quebec law?
