What tasks and capabilities would you expect from an individual who has one years bookkeeping experience?

What tasks and capabilities would you expect from an individual who has one years bookkeeping experience?

Good Morning,

I would like to know: 1) What **specific** tasks and capabilities would you expect from an individual who has one years bookkeeping experience?

HST Returns? Entire Month End Close? Call customers to pay? Payroll?

Lets assume they were performing bookkeeping at a firm for one year using Quickbooks

Oddly specific but generally bookkeepers after one year should roughly be able to

- book all entries
- AP/AR including vendor/customer follow ups
- reconciliations
- Payroll entries
- at least bring everything to a trial balance for an accountant to review and month end close

Let's assume it was the exact same question, except I switched bookkeeper to Junior Accountant.

What would your answer now be?

Similar-ish, bookkeeper typically associated with smaller less complex, messier small businesses and smaller accounting firms.

Junior Accountants could only take care of just AR, or AP, or general accounting. Bookkeeper does everything.

Not necessarily and depends on the company size really. You do not see a bookkeeper in a large multinational enterprise as it would be impossible, and a junior accountant could mean different things too.
