Anyone tried the garlic portobello burgers (found in the deli section)? A pack was like $9.xx. Don't remember how many in a pack...maybe 8? Just wondering if it's worth it.

Also, I found out from them yesterday they no longer carry the panko bread crumbs. That's too bad as I really wanted to try. Anyone know where I can get a big box (I only saw little boxes at T&T).

Their fresh salsa is good...$5.99 for 1.5L, all natural ingredients.

I also like their seasonal merchandise (kids' Speedo swimwear for $12.99, spring/easter dresses under $20). The only thing is their seasonal stuff come out so early so by the time you actually need it, they're sold out.

Good thread!

I go for the food samples, the price savings are just a bonus!
I think I'm remembering most of what I go for; and I buy most of the items when they're on sale:
note: I've noticed that the 'regular' prices of some items tend to fluctuate - and others occasionally go up permanently while others (at the same time) go down permanently.

- Apricots, Dried (Golden Boy, 1.5Kg bag) .. though price went up to $10.49 from $7.69 recently, yikes!
- Baked Beans (Heinz, 9-pack) ... @ $4.99 (recent price drop - used to be $5.25 on special and even $7.39 at one location I visited last week)
- Baking Powder (Magic, 450g) .. @ $3.95
- Baking Soda (Arm & Hammer, 6x 500g) .. @ $5.99
- Bread - English Muffins (Oakridge Farms, 3x 6-pack) .. @ $2.97
- Bread - Sliced, 12-Grain (Dempster's, 3x 675g) .. @ $5.99 (recent price increase, used to be $5.19)

- Cheese - Havarti (Denmark's Finest, 454g) .. @ $6.99
- Cheese - Cheddar (Balderson's 6-year old, 500g) .. when on special @ $9.79 (reg: $13.79)
- Cheese - Parmesan (Kraft, 500g) .. when on sale @ $8.64 (reg: $10.89)
- Cheese - Cream Cheese (Philadelphia, 2x 400g tub) .. $8.99
- Chocolate Syrup (Nesquik, 2L) .. when on sale @ $9.59 (reg: $12.59, used to be on special @ $8.75)
- Cream, Whipping 35% (Sealtest, 1L) .. @ $4.99
- Dates (Medjool, 907g) .. @ $8.99
- Eggs (xtraLg, 18-pack) .. @ $3.49
- Evaporated Milk (Carnation, 6-pack) .. @ $8.89
- Honey (Billy Bee, 1Kg) .. @ $6.69
- Hot Chocolate Powder (Carnation, 1.8Kg) .. when on sale/reduced @ $8.97 (reg: $10.99)

Hey, has anyone seen Fleischmann's Yeast (Active Dry, 907g, vacuum-packed)? I saw it ONCE, back in December ($5.69), but never again. Is it something most stores carry, or.. just a few? I've requested it twice now via their in-store feedback forms.

You put a lot of work/detail in your list above. :arrowu:

That's what I thought as well...sizes and all. Geez.

Do you own a restaurant or something...what do you do with 907 g of yeast - bake like 150 loaves of bread.
$1 saved is like $2 earned...remember that!

I know the sizes of everything I buy, I know the prices of everything I buy -- I don't think that's weird. It wasn't much effort to put them in the post and could potentially help a non-Costco member reading this thread to see what they're missing out on so I figured "why not?".

As for the yeast, I have a bread machine (Zojirushi) and bake 2 sometimes 3 loaves a week, plus make pizza dough every couple of weeks. A 113g jar of yeast ($3.99 @ NoFrils) yields 16-17 batches of dough, so I go through a jar every 5 weeks. If I could find the yeast at Costco, for <$3 more than I usually pay, I could make about 8x more dough. 907g is far more than I need, but put it in the freezer and it'll keep almost indefinitely.

I liked your detailed post. It definitely helps those who like to comparison shop. Lots of times people don't calculate per unit cost. It might surprise some people that some prices at Costco on a per unit basis could actually be higher than elsewhere (especially when it's on sale elsewhere).

I've also been looking for bulk instant yeast. I've read that US Costcos sell the 1-lb SAF instant yeast but they're not found here. Closest I've found is 1-lb Fleishmann's instant at Bulk Barn for $5.xx.

Well, for a once a year indulgence (it's only available for maybe 3-4 weeks of the year) I would say its rich flavour is worth it.

It's like the Kobe beef of salmon.

Nothing....

We have a membership, but it is just not worth it to go out to the netherworld to go to Costco....No question, there are some items that are cheaper in bulk, but we always found that with that "bulk" there was waste. Going to the local grocer has saved us time and money.

If we had to go to Costco:
Salad dressing, Dried mango and fruit cups...that is what we buy.

I'm a 27-year old guy living by myself. I buy:

Contact lenses (always on sale when I buy them too)
Vitamins
Bottled water
Paper towels / toilet paper
Razors (These things are amazingly expensive in regular stores)
Shampoo
Toothpaste
Laundry detergent
Random things like snacks, basic clothes, and anything interesting that's been marked down

I usually pop in when the stuff I need is on sale, and I've easily saved more than the membership's cost. I also have the Amex, and I count the 'Front of the line' perk as another reason to keep the membership active.
