What's that air vent in my roof

See picture

I know the vents on the right are for the following: Bathroom exhaust, dryer vent, and plumbing vent

I am not sure what are the square-shaped vents in the middle? anyone can advise?
FYI, I do have central air conditioning and HRV. I think HRV needs 2 x vents - one for air intake and one for air exhaust. Does central air conditioning need multiple vents?

Thanks

Attic vents? To get fresh air from outside in and circulate hot air in the attic out.

Both above are right. Attic vents, venting the attic preventing moisture to get trapped there causing mold and structural issues. No venting can trap hot air leaking from the inside during winter meeting cold air making condensation, and, later, mold. It helps keeping the roof deck colder during summer days, saving roof shingles.

Strictly speaking they're exhaust vents to let hot attic air out. The cooler air generally comes in via the soffit.
