When did this change? you now need to create an account with Equifax and Transunion for free credit report/score?

I always did the free online credit disclosure on Equifax and Transunion, and never needed to create an account now all of a sudden everybody must create an account? what gives? how many online accounts does someone need in this digital age? too many I guess?

Is there NO way to do it without creating one? i know you can do it thru your bank but i am not talking about thru the bank (cibc, rbc, Toronto dominion Canada trust) I am talking about thru Equifax and Transunion web sites only)

As far as I remember you've needed an account. How else would they identify you?

The number of accounts you need is directly related to how many entities you deal with online. I'm not sure how else you expect to deal with them?

I have no idea why people are downvoting. I remember you used to be able to order it online for free, also by phone and fax. No account needed. But that was years ago.

If you don't want to create an online account, you have the option of mailing in your request.

That's the switchover to the new login, but you had a login previously. That's an account too.

He's saying he never had an account - which I thought we always needed to order online. Yeah, you could order for free via mail-in request, fax or phone without creating an account, but I always thought to access online you needed an account.

And that wont show or wont work. you can not order new reports which I used to do every 2-3 months.

I will have to check again if you can login in old interface. I tried few months before and it took me to new link. But last year I could login both links.

I used to get screen like this.

It might be retaliatory; an eye for eye kinda thing. Not that I'm into that.
I recently received a series of downvotes within a minute or two on historical threads after pointing out something to the OP.

I can assure you, there WAS a way of doing it WITHOUT creating a login . I did it once a year and I saved and printed the PDF files and stored them away for reference when needed. but the login thing is actually new, how does no one remember this? A lot of my friends and co-workers we all did this to check our credit history. Maybe the people who Don't seem to be bothered by this never used the free one where no login was required so they are thinking to them self "what the heck is this guy talking about, downvote him" or maybe they just do not like me in general because i have different interests then they do?

so it looks like even when Equifax and TransUnion had a "Free" way of getting your credit report WITHOUT creating a login, it seems people still went ahead and created the login and logged in to see their credit report?

my question is maybe people never knew they could login and get a free consumer disclosure? but isnt this the purpose of rfd? how to get things free?

I think people knew as this was all over RFD. this became popular/publicized more as Quebec started giving free score and report.
dumb question. are you saying you can get free report ONLINE without creating login.
to be honest I have never bothered/cared to check score and report for so many years. And only started checking since it went live in RFD few years before.

isn't it same with Tranunion? I mean you need to create login name to get report. And Yes you can download PDF file ate TU.

I can confirm that I have previously pulled my credit report without creating an account, but that's also a long time ago at this point, several years, at least 5.

it was not changed a LONG time ago, It had to be a recent change. I have downloaded credit disclosures from up to 2020 so it was a very recent change, i probably never logged in in 2021 to test it.
