Where to buy instant yeast in Vaughan?

I've been to No Frills, Freshco, Walmart, and Costco and couldn't find any instant yeast.

Most of them stock that overpriced fleischmann's dry active yeast in a little jar or packets. $5 for a tiny ass jar of yeast around 100 grams. I know costco has the red star active dry yeast for around $5-6 for 1kg which is ridiculously cheap compared to the overpriced stuff from fleischmann's but unfortunately, they don't carry instant yeast, at least not the one in my location.

Do you have a Wholesale Club nearby? A search for instant yeast shows 450 g Fleischmann's Quick-Rise instant yeast for $8.97 ($8.47 each if you buy 2). This is in Saskatoon, might not be available at all locations. I use the Costco Red Star yeast and it's perfectly fine for all my baking needs.

If you're in Vaughan, you're not that far from John Vince Foods [Dufferin/Finch]. Best bulk place in the city. Pick up some 00 flour while you're there and make some pizza with it.
We're all bozos on the bus until we find a way to express ourselves...

Failure is always an option...just not the preferred one!

I have seen 1lb of Instaferm brand expiring in 2023 on clearance for $1.74 at Fortinos before.
If your Fortinos has a bulk section, they also carry active dried yeast in bulk for 90 cent's per 50grams.

Never heard of wholesale club before. I don't think we have them here in Vaughan. I'm not a particularly big fan of dry active yeast because you typically need to activate it in warm water/milk with sugar first for 10 minutes. I tried a few times without doing the activation process and the dough just didn't rise properly. Also a lot of recipes online use instant yeast and I need to always figure out how to change it to accommodate active dry yeast.

Thanks I'll check it out if I'm in the neighborhood.

Do you know if Longo's also carries instant yeast? I rarely go to either Fortino's and Longo's as I find the prices tend to be more on the expensive side but I will stop by if they carry yeast.

Wholesale Club in Vancouver also has fresh yeast. Cheap too.
Can't get more instant than literally still alive.
It's perishable though.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Really, Costco doesn't have any?

They had pandemic related stock issues last year, but I've seen our local Costco and Costco Business Centre carry both Red Star Active Dry Yeast and Lallemand Instaferm Instant Dry Yeast.

It's definitely the best bang for the buck. $5 for 1lb of yeast, and I typically go through it in 12-18 months. Even if you only use 10% of it, you're going to be better off than buying those expensive Fleischmann bottles...
