Where to buy Steel cut oats - not instant variety

Where to buy steel cut oats (but not instant oats)? I like the PC Blue Menu 100% Whole Grain Steel Cut Oats but wondering if there is something cheaper.

Mom favours Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats. Sometimes Sobey's has a discount deal on all Bob's Red Mill products and sometimes not.
I don't encourage 30min cooking of oats in a heatwave. Mom's done it and we don't have a vent hood over the stove nor a/c.

You may also want to see if Goodness Me or other healthy food places might have sales on Bob's products.

Sorry, I don't know how much the PC version is selling for.
I'll have more Spring in my step if I win shopping sprees!😄

I go through a lot of oats. The Bob's Red Mill Organic Steel Cut oats from Costco are the ones I buy now.

The Bob's Red Mill from Costco is the quick-cooking variety. I usually get a bag or two when it's on sale. Bulk Barn has the traditional steel cut oats and I used to buy a large quantity of it when they had a coupon $3 off $10 purchase...less so these days because the coupon is not as good.

Location?

The PC Blue Menu one is pretty fair priced I found vs regular price at Bulk Barn.

When it goes on sale or you got other stuff to buy, buy more Steel Cut Oats when they have the coupon [$5 off $15 or $20 or something like that]. You can also check John Vince foods IF you're in GTA.

Have you tried Costco? It can be hit and miss but sometimes they have excellent deals on raw grains, including organic items.

The only quick cook feature is the grains are cut up into smaller pieces otherwise there is no further processing.
I have not seen the steel cut oats at costco on sale. I always pay the regular price.
I also keep oats in the freezer even unopened bags.

Well, cutting into smaller pieces is a form of processing ;) ...but I agree, it's a wholesome product, just takes less time to cook than the traditional. It does go on sale at Costco a couple times a year. Good tip about freezing it if you buy large quantities, it can go rancid over time. Vac sealing would also work.

Costco only has quick cooking.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

If you buy the PC ORGANICS Steel Cut Oats 1 kg at No Frills ($3.97) over the PC Blue Menu 100% Whole Grain Steel Cut Oats 840g at Loblaws ($3.99) you get 20% more for the same price.

PC Blue Menu 100% Whole Grain Steel Cut Oats 840g at No Frills is 42¢ cheaper than at Loblaws, 10% cheaper.

I think there is a PC Optimum offer for PC Organics products that may pop up for you.

Small gains, but something.

Tried looking at Amazon but nothing cheaper than PC Blue. And most are instant variety.

I don’t mind the long cooking time, I just toss it into instant pot and forget it until I am ready to have it.

Will check out bulk barn, has been a long time.

In the past if I couldn't get the PC Menu slow cooking steel cut, I would buy McCann's Irish steel cut oats instead. They weren't cheap though. Other choice was Bob's Red Mill.

Now, if we're rushed occasionally in the morning, we'll just cook some large flake oats. Most of the time now we eat oat groats. Prefer it in taste to even the steel cut we used to have.

NOT centre of Univer…
PC Blue menu Steel Cut is consistently the cheapest, unless you get a large bag at Costco when it goes on sale (about once a year). Bulk barn is more expensive.

If you are looking at large quantities, you can buy in bulk on line but it's it 50 lb bags. The shipping was lousy out west but if you are in ON, it seemed more reasonable. I also could not go through a 50 lb bags before it goes bad
On a 'smart' device that isn't always so smart. So please forgive the autocorrects and typos. If it bothers you, then don't read my posts, but don't waste my time correcting me. If you can get past the typos, then my posts generally have some value.

I usually buy "Only Oats 1kg" (see picture: https://www.saskmade.ca/products/only-o ... 05cb&_ss=r )) on sale from London Drugs $5.99 or Sobeys $7.99, sometimes Bulk Barn (use coupon);I've been wanting to try Bob's Red Mill but it's not available @ lots of grocery stores.

Bulk Barn is good for steel-cut oats, when they have a sale. Otherwise, we buy the PC Blue Menu stuff, or sometimes the Quaker brand if it's on sale and cheaper.

I buy McCann's as well--agree, it's not cheap, but it is consistently delicious.

I use the "short cut" cooking method, though I have my own adaptation: the night before I bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan on the stove. When water is boiling, I add 1 cup of steel cut oats and a pinch of salt. Using a heat-resistant spatula, I stir this until the water comes back to a boil, cover it with a lid, turn off the heat, and let it sit overnight on the cooktop. In the morning, I remove the pot lid, give it a stir with the spatula, turn the burner on to its lowest setting, go and make my coffee. By the time my coffee is ready, the oatmeal is ready. I wouldn't leave it for too long (1/2 hour) as it may start to stick on the bottom.
The ocean is calling.........and I must go.
