Where can I buy Vietnamese BUN noodles (Toronto)

Hi guys. need your help. so a lot of asian supermarkets as well as regular grocery stores like Metro sell rice sticks/noodles - either the flat ones for pad thai or the really thin vermicelli noodles. However, i've never been able to locate round-ish rice noodles that you get when you order 'bun' at a vietnamese restaurant (it's like vermicelli but thicker). does anyone know where i can buy this in Toronto!

Thanks.

Hello,
Its your friendly neighbourhood urbanpoet here.
Please see attached. This brand is the one that has that lovely thick textured noodle that youre looking for!

They are very starchy... so make sure you use a lot of water to boil them and give it a good rinse. Otherwise they get very gummy.

You can find it at any asian grocery store, this is a common one.
From my pantry lol

Another delicious simple vietnamese meal tk make with this... is almost like a salad.
-cold vermicilli
-top with grilled meat either pork chop or chicken
-shredded lettuce
-green onion
-crushed peanuts (or cashew if youre feeling fancy)
-cilantro
-pickeled carrots & daikon
-vietnamese fish sauce vinegrette mix
-1 spring roll & vietnamese sausage slices

Theres also bun rieu which is my favourite but i don’t want to sit here talking all day i’ll save this for another thread!

Yep this the brand that we use too. Water, a splash of oil and drop the noodles in. Rinse after with water.

Bun bo Hua is what it's mostly used for. A Spicy beef red soup.

I wouldn't use it for bun rieu. That requires a thinner noodle.

I like the thick noodles for my bun rieu :) i’ve just gotten acustom to it from viet restaurants...

But my parents think its blasphemy... we got into a huge arguement over it... lol

“This aint no bun rieu you white boy!”. When it comes to food from the mother land theyre savage.

Thank you, UrbanPoet! Going to use your recipe as soon as I locate these noodles you mentioned. My viet cuisine knowledge ends at Pho and Bun.. but now am definitely going to try ordering Bun bo hua/ bun rieu next time I go to a vietnamese resto!

Bun Bao Hue, is my favourite! When we went to Vietnam, we specifically visited Hue to eat it there!

I use this brand of vermicelli. Its thicker then the one previously posted and I like it much more for all my bun dishes, especially for bun Bo hue. You can find that at most Asian supermarkets. Good luck.

I pick up ingredients for Vietnamese inspired dishes from B&T beside the Chuck E Cheese at Rutherford / 400 near Wonderland / Vaughan Mills. You can also try for Vietnamese food supplies at Jane and Finch called Jian Hing. In the east we have had luck finding what we need at Foody Mart near Mc Cowan and 7.

I seriously did not know about this brand until my husband's family made it for me. I loved the texture so much! They are Vietnamese as well. I hope to recreate a salad-like noodle as well. I love cold noodle salads.
