where to download a geniune windows8 OEM iso for ASUS?

my asus notebook is throwing a fit and I need to reinstall the windows8 it comes with, but however I have replaced the original harddrive with an SSD thus no way to have the recovery partition.

The microsoft way of "upgrading to windows 8" method seems not working as connection cannot established.

I thought you meant that running the install app straight from the laptop was giving you a network error.

I think "promo bay" *wink wink* has standard non-modified ISO files available.

Did your machine come with Win8 or 8.1? If it came with 8, you'll need the 8 iso. If it came with 8.1, you'll need the 8.1 iso.

The serial # is embedded in the bios and you will need that to re-install the OS. Also, you will need to find the correct single-language ISO for it to work. I have the oem iso for my Acer but it would not work on an Asus notebook and vice versa.

the serial key is embbed in the UEFI bios... but if I could get asus oem windows 8 disc, then the installation would recognize the embbed serial key... the problem is that I don't have an asus OEM win8 disc.

Look for an MSDN iso.

After days of struggling with this ASUS laptop, finally with the aid from audit13 (from his savior asus windows 8 installation DVD) I got windows 8 installed.

1st of all, my external dvd-rom doesn't support UEFI bios boot option, and in order to install windows 8 on this asus x202e, you have to boot from UEFI with UEFI supported devices.
I formatted a flashdrive with rufus kit with the asus windows 8 installation DVD iso, and format it with GPT UEFI bootable.
in BIOS I have to disable "Launch CSM" and enable "secure boot"
after UEFI booting from the flashdrive windows 8 iso, do a clean-wipe installation, this would enable GPT on your harddrive, how to tell? GPT will at least creates 4 partitions.
windows 8 would still prompt you for cdkey, simply ignore it for the moment.
now download and run pkuibx.exe and make sure select MSDM KEY, this will read the OEM win8 cdkey from UEFI bios, write down the cdkey.
then activate with the cdkey you have.
profit.

Glad you got it to work.

I also removed the mechanical drive and installed an SSD. It was a 240 GB SSD which I wanted to partition into 2 partitions (100 GB for Win8 and programs, the rest for my data files).

When I did a clean install of Win8 onto an Asus Q301LA laptop , I was able to restore the Win8 ISO to a flash drive using Microsoft's USB Download tool. I then booted the laptop from the USB drive, created the partitions using MBR, restarted the installation process, and installed Win8. I did not run into the UEFI issue with the Asus laptop and my USB drive. Creating the partitions ahead of time prevented Win8 from creating the hidden 100 MB partition. Once everything was installed, I used Acronis True Image to create an image of the c: drive. If my drive crashes or I swap drives, I use Acronis to restore my c: drive image.

I guess it doesn't matter how you got it to work, the important thing is you got it to work!

i don't know how i can possibly send you the ISO if you're internet connection can't download it from MS (which supports resume)

torrents are available online.. just be sure to match the CRC/MD5 hash with the official MSDN release

edit: doh! i should've read first.... glad you got it working OP

Any chance you still have the ISO floating around? I'm in the same boat, before realizing all of this Microsoft BS about OEM vs Retail I went and wiped everything thinking a retail ISO would work...

Mint is absolutely horrible on my ASUS laptop.

Opensuse on the otherhand is a dream come true.

Mint just easy to get into, I find that my system is alot more responsive in OpenSUSE.
