Where to Get Insurance Company to Assess Damage?

Hi,

I’m in the process of getting my car damage repaired by Insurance. My Auto Body Shop is asking me to schedule the assessment of damages to be done at the shop with them present.

Is this a good idea? Or is it better to have Insurance assess it at my house? I don’t get why they would be asking that but I don’t mind either way.

The car is drivable.

Thanks.

Not sure about the real answer, but my first thought is that it makes sense for there to be a representative from the shop there as the assessment is done, to make sure that the insurance company and the shop are on the same page with what's required to be repaired.

Just drop it off at the body shop, get your rental car, and let the bodyshop and insurance company handle the rest.

For a repair, the only thing they'll have differences in is whether they'll use new OEM or aftermarket parts.

Do you have a hoist in your driveway? Do you have a professional scanner for ECU codes at your home? Do you have the tools needed to partially disassemble your vehicle to look for hidden damage? If the answer is no to any of these do you think that it would be a good idea to have the car inspected at a place that does have them? If you answer yes I think you have your answtt
