Because the 1% is really more like the 9-10%....50% of which (in Canada) live in the GTA.
Thanks for the memories, RFD.
Good-bye.

$1 million is entry level for a detached home in Toronto. Even my dog's doghouse is worth more than $1 million.

Most of us who own multi-million dollar homes in Toronto were a part of the RFD Home Group Buy of 2008 that you must have missed. Great prices at the time.

1 million dollars gets you an average house in a decent neighbourhood in the GTA.

Yes, Toronto is renowned to not only rich local people in Canada, but also the poorest of people who move here. So what's the point of this thread? LA, Long Island, Miama used to have a lot of million dollar homes, see where it got them. There is a lot of million dollar home, because people drive up the prices. Doesn't mean everyone is rich.

A run down ugly detach house in Chinatown can easily be worth 1.5 million. So what's your point?

My inlaws bought their house in Markham for $350k back in 1996. According to mls and simlar houses listing prices are $850k plus.

Their store in scarb was bought in the mid-80's for $150k. From recent sales in the strip lot stores of simlar sizes are going for $850k+

I myself would never want or (afford) to live in the GTA. Too expensive (house broke), too many people, and way too much traffic.

Markham it's own city North of Toronto.

$200K doesn't even pay the PoolBoy and the Gardener in Rosedale in Toronto.

The bottom line is Toronto is an International World Renowned city now and a lot of foreign money has driven up condo and home prices in Toronto.
Toronto Real Estate offers a sound investment you can live in or rent out or speculate on and Toronto proper has an almost unblemished record of year after year property value increases.
Lol more like money has inflated to the maximum because those 1 million dollar houses were only 350k in 2000

Have you even seen the mansions in Richmond Hill and Aurora (heck Magna International's based there)?

Single detached homes in my neighbourhood are selling for $1 million atm, and our home was $500,000 when we bought it 14 years ago.
