Why is bell's routing so crap?

Why is bell's routing so crap?

Doing a traceroute from Hamilton to a Toronto server, there's 5 hops before existing their Toronto network and onto their peer's.

The ping isn't looking too groovy either for in-network route.

You're lucky. Until recently Bell only peered with Telia in Chicago, so your traffic would've gone to Toronto, then to Chicago, then back up to Toronto.

Oh haha, I remember that. All the Buffalo route would go up the Chicago then back up...
