why new condo kitchen designs don't have kitchen island?

i've been noticing that a lot of the new condos being built, are missing the kitchen island. the entire kitchen is now against the wall. why is that?

Exactly.

Because it's been a sellers market for so bloody long in Toronto the condo builders really don't give a crap, they know they can sell any bloody lousy design they want.

Most condos being sold today don't have the room. Even if you did get an island...it would be tiny.

They would have to either drop the ceiling, build a box or raise the ceiling height of your suite and the one below.

Space and cost will be the two main factors.

Does current OBC have a minimum cleareace on each side...I think I read something like 48" inches.

Space is the main reason. When you lose a wall in the kitchen, you lose a LOT (cabinet space, place for appliances...).

What size of condo? My 666 sqft condo has the kitchen against the wall and a 7' bar/island.

Simply lack of space. Most unit are fairly small in size.

No, it's feel. 48" is generous, I would never go below 36", but even 36" feels tight.
