wifi internet

i have the bell hub 3000 and 1000mbs is my provider speed
i upgraded my laptops wifi card to a ac wifi card and update the cards driver
i am mostly using my laptop in the basement and the bell hub 3000 is on the third floor
of my house i am using 5ghz connection so in my basement my wifi signal is 1 bar and my
download speedtest is close to 200mbs .
is the bell hub 3000 the channels locked from the provider i tried auto,36,44,48 and think 40 and
my speed is still 200mbs i then a cheep route bought a tplink re650 range extender and paired it
with my bell hub 3000 and did a online speedtest with a range of 275-300mbs on channel 36 for wifi 5g
and the extender is plugged in to a outlet in my basement with all blue bars lite meaning good single
and on my laptop the bars are full and my wifi properties say 866recieve/866 transmit
but i can never hit the 866 speed and my wifi card supports it and so does my internet provider speed
do i need to play with the channels on the tplink extender or is this something to do with bells hub 3000
and bell

thanks if you can help me out

The TP-Link RE650 is simply repeating the signal if gets from the HH3000 and will not give you Gigabit. If you want max speed between the HH3000 and your laptop, use Ethernet.

Where is the re-650 located?

so my home has three floors main, upstairs and basement
was thinking if i put the re-650 on the main floor
would it help with the wifi speed
thanks for your reply

When you performed the speed test did you make sure that no other devices on the network were consuming (sharing) the bandwidth from your router?

What speed do you get when your laptop is in the same room as the HH3000? If that speed is not satisfactory, then don't waste your time on wi-fi extenders, start looking for other reasons. If you find you get good speed when you are in the same room, perhaps try using the 2.4G connection when in the basement because it has further reach than the 5G. Narrower bandwidth with stronger, more reliable signal, may be an improvement.

Have you verified that you are getting the speed promised by Bell?. You need to check this with your laptop (or other device) plugged directly into the HH3000 with a cable.

If you are getting what your are paying for from Bell (1000 mbps), and your device in the basement can obtain 200 mbps, is it really worth the time, effort, and cost to improve on that? Higher wi-fi speeds are useful if you are transferring large files from the Internet or from other devices on you own network, but for web browsing, YouTube watching, or even streaming HD video, 200 mbps is about 40 times faster than you need.

You should try on the main floor in different areas. To make it easier to move around, plug the re-650 into a long extension cord and move from place to place.

Hi thanks for all the responses and help
when the laptop is hard wired (ethernet cable) It gets full speed of 1000mbs
everything works full speed hard wired desktop and laptops
laptop using the wifi extender highest with wifi every other device closed
and doing speedtest is highest 300mbs extenders in the basement
last question so this extender is just im thinking a device that repeats
the wifi signal if you have a wifi dead zone?
so last question i bought it at best buy for 129+tax (tplink ac2600 re650)
i saw on amazon TP-Link Deco Whole Home Mesh WiFi System – Up to 5,500 Sq. Ft. Coverage,WiFi Router/WiFi Extender Replacement, AC1200 Gigabit Ports, Seamless Roaming, Parental Controls,Works w/ Alexa (Deco M4 3-Pack) for 149+tax
would the amazon product be a better buy?
i guessing wifi is wifi and you cant get what speed your internet provides and yup ethernet is full speed
can it be the wifi card in my laptop its a wifi ac card
would upgrading the bell hub 3000 to a bell hub 4000 be better

You will never get full speed on a single router via wifi if your router is in the third floor and you're down in the basement. To test what the maximum speed is via wifi, sit right next to the wifi router and test. Then you know any drop as you move further away is due to range, not equipment. Even with extender it'll take a bit of the bandwidth to maintain the "extended signal".

Mesh system might get you better performance. Especially if you can hardwire the stations together for a wired backhaul.

If you have weak signal in the basement from the bell modem adding a repeater/extender will just repeat the same weak signal from the bell modem.

- Try putting the Extender on the main floor, it will now repeat a stronger signal from the bell modem and you will likely get faster speeds (but probably not full 1gbit)
- The Best way to set this is up is to actually run a Cat6 network cable from the Bell modem into the basement to the extender, now you will get very good speeds since its source is full 1gbit speed.
