I wish the government would just ship them for free to everyone. They have our addresses! But no, we just had to have several months of "no masks necessary."

Thanks! Just got one, she had it right in the cash drawer and the lineup was very short. It comes wrapped in plastic. I don't think many people know about it as I was the only one who got it while I was in the store.

...or do like Alberta did. Government distributed packs of masks through A&W, McDonald's and Tim Horton's.

While I have no intention to defend the government position, it is somehow understandable. We've learned about the virus as we go. We had to adjust supplies as we go. As early as May, I saw masks limitations in hospitals for staff (doctors/nurses/cleaning...) and visitors...

And also, most of the "no mask necessary" was (and still is) on the perspective of self-protection. Now we know (or at least some of us know) that mask usage aim to protect others from our droplets.

Medical staff need N95 masks, not the masks we're now wearing to limit the spread of contagion to others. Controlling the spread of infections by asking everyone to wear them (and shipping them to everyone) would have helped a lot to reduce the need for medical staff to treat so many people to begin with.

Wish they just sent us the mask though, majority of the ones i went too said they’re all out. As the poster previously said, the government has our addresses and for the ones that do not have a physical address then they can go to the fast food outlets, train stations and public buildings

Medical staff treating COVID-19 patients yes, n95 all the way. Others, not really. Unless they're going to a situation that requires that extra level of protection, and even then, in ~3 months going to NICU almost every day from late Apr till early Aug- I haven't seen any N95. Even in rooms with patients waiting COVID results, normally they'd use gown, faceshield, procedure mask (not n95) and gloves.

You know what was fun - seeing each doctor getting 3 masks for a 12h shift. Nurses just 1. Visitors (myself) only 1.
Hand Sanitiser was also hugely impacted, at one point they migrated to a crappy version (smells like the worst tequila in the world), then it was running out, they'd refill just every other dispenser.

Now - I don't disagree that they could've send masks, and wasn't the point I was referring to when I quoted you (I've explicit removed that part from the quote)

edit - actually I think the doctors had 24h shifts (at least the fellows) - and yeah 3 masks.

Exactly creates larger unnecessary queue in line with normal shoppers for the mask
