Is work place allowed to charge money for Mistake to employees?

Hello there Guys;
So, I joined a new company and they are just setting up a new location; and the manager just informed me that I have to do inventory before loading a truck and if there is any mistake counting than pay comes out from my pay check.

Is this legit?

I expect that mistakes might inevitably be made as it's just a manual inventory check and we are not using any software to track the inventory.

I have never heard about this before so I am dumbfounded and little confused at this work policy, is this legal?

Shady as hell. Find a new job.

“Deductions not allowed
If a customer leaves without paying or your error costs your employer money, that amount cannot be deducted from your wages. That amount can also not be deducted from your tips and other gratuities.“

https://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/es ... orkers.php

Keep working there while looking for a new job. If they deduct your pay. Threaten to sue and take it to the labour board.

If they get angry. Just yell
“Oh my god!!!! Please don’t hit me!!” In front of teenagers with cell phones.
Jk about the last part.

No it's not legal - they're trying to take advantage of their employees. Find a new job ASAP. Make sure you don't sign any written authorization - but even if you did:
Even with a signed authorization, an employer cannot make a deduction from wages if:

the purpose is to cover a loss due to “faulty work.” For example, “faulty work” could be a mistake in a credit card transaction, work that is spoiled or rejected, or a situation where tools are broken or employer vehicles damaged while on employer business;
or
the employer has a cash shortage or has had property lost or stolen when an employee did not have sole access and total control over the cash or property that is lost or stolen. A deduction can only be made when the employee was the only one to have access to the cash or property, and has provided a written authorization to the employer to make the deduction.

Small and new company says it all. Expect zero accountability, blatant nepotism/favoritism, ESA violations, pay "errors", and other shady practices. "HR" is probably the manager/owner or someone with close ties to them, so you'll most likely need to go through outside help (MOL most likely) for any fair resolution. Once you do go through an external party to resolve issues, there's a good possibility you'll be ostracized and/or face retaliation of some sort. Not a place you want to work at.

Is it possible that the manager was joking or just trying to stress how important it is to get the job done right? I know at my workplace when I started as a new employee, when we dropped something on the floor our supervisor said it was coming out of our pay, he was dead serious for a bit until people clued in he was pulling our leg.

I had a manager that "expected" me to stay late if the job was not done within the regular business hours of 8 to 4, but I had to tell him I committed myself to the hours of 8 to 4, and outside of that i have another job from 5 to 9 in the evenings i committed to someone else, much like i did with him
