Wow, Lenovo warranty really sucks

My mom bought a Lenovo laptop at staples, pretty good deal, it was 850$ instead of 1200$, really good laptop for the price.

Anyhow, she used it 3 times and the last time the screen started shutting down randomly and now won't power on. The laptop works well if plugged in an external display but the laptop monitor seems to be dead.

Now the laptop is 2 months old, call Lenovo and they say it's out of warranty because the screen warranty is only one month.

What the hell, that can't be right?

They say if we pay 200$ they can repair it.

that's not right, I had my son's laptop screen warranty right before the 1 year mark, as half of it was bluish. I actually thought it was one of the best warranty experience, they sent us a box for shipping the laptop to their repair center, and I got emails alerts for every step, and got the laptop back in a week or so.

I've purchased Lenovo laptops where the Lenovo system showed that the unit was almost out warranty. The problem is that your purchase date is when the warranty starts, not the date the laptop leaves the warehouse. Lenovo really needs to do better on warranty dates.

Call back and speak with someone in sales and see what's going on. I've never heard of a separate screen warranty from computer warranty on a laptop.
Also, worst case, check if the credit card used to purchase the laptop has warranty included as you could claim it on that.

Was it a new laptop or a refurb?

was this a refurbished machine.

never heard of a laptop that didn't have at least a 1 year warranty and the screen should be covered as part of the whole machines warranty there isn't dif warranties for dif parts.

about the only way i could see them to deny a warranty for the screen is if its got physical damage then u would have had to upgrade the warranty to there one that covers accidental damage.

def call back ask for a manger. if they don't help. post on there facebook and twitter pages. file a complaint though the bbb https://www.bbb.org/us/nc/morrisville/p ... 3-90064256 one of those options will get u in touch with someone higher up who will deal with it.

It was a brand new sealed system, it is in no way shape or form a refurbished model.

She was quoted 200$ to upgrade to the Premium care PLUS for 12 month to cover the screen repair and she has only 24 hours to accept the deal because it's a one time offer.

Sure feel like a freaking rip-off.

Damn, she only turned that computer on 3 times?
They usually have a 30-day no questions asked return policy (or at least that's advertised). You'll want to test it in that window.

That doesnt sound right, might be old stock and they are going off the serial number.

You should be able to provide proof of purchase and warranty will follow that. Dont back down, ask to escalate to a supervisor or manager.

I had Lenovo replace the screen on my laptop at 6th month into the warranty last year. I didn't like the fact it broke but works good now. They are always trying to sell me additional warranty for $99 when I called in few times speaking with different people when website has it for $50 when purchased online.

I think it's just one guy acting out on you. As many said, call back and start the warranty process again. If not get your money back using cc extended warranty protection.

It could be that Lenovo started the 1 year warranty on laptop based on manufacture date or the date it was shipped to Staples, and you need to contact Lenovo and provide proof of purchase from the authorized retailer to update the start date of the laptop warranty to the actual date of purchase.

In Costco threads, there are reports that this is what happens with WD external hard drives being sold there, where the warranty already started and customers needed to provide proof of purchase to WD to update the warranty dates on record.

Granted this was a couple years ago but I got a motherboard warrantied no questions asked. It was quite painless.
Sucks for OP though. I'd escalate.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Wow, Dell gets a lot of hate but if this ends up being true that will convince me to never buy anything Lenovo ever again. Please post updates when you have them and good luck I hope you get a positive outcome.

most laptops when u put the s/n in online will give the warranty date based on when the machine was made. with acer for eg once u register it that warranty date will update from when the machine was made to the date u selected it was bought from normally takes about 24-48 hours.

sounds to me like u got a bad agent who don't know what there talking about and are just trying to upsell.

the Premium care plus will add the Accidental Damage Protection sure but that should only be needed if the screen is cracked or in some way physically damaged. if the screen simply failed they should be replacing it under the standard 1 year warranty.

call back escalate the issue and file complaints that's the only way u will get action don't spend money on a warranty upgrade u don't need if the screen is faulty and not damaged.

shabby wrote: If lenovo won't fix your 2 month old laptop the slimey thing to do is to buy the exact same laptop from staples and swap it with the broken one and return it and say its broken, just play dumb and demand your money back rather then exchange. Yes i know this screws staples in a way but its either you or them.
Except that won't work. Your return will have a different serial number.

Bad advice! Just like that, switch?

OP will end up with 2 laptops.

Do they put serial numbers on the receipt? If they don't then return with the old box, if they do then ya you're screwed.
