YMMV Note 10+ Deal in March at Costco

So I'm not sure if this is true or not but I overheard some employees saying that The Note 10+ will be on sale for around $500 off and just under $900 sometime in March. This could be a potential hot deal given Costco's warranty and the current msrp of over $1400.

Not sure where to post this so feel free to move it.

How is Costco's warranty any better then Samsung's 1yr warranty?

I'm waiting for it too. I spoke to another rep about what he said and he confirmed there was a similar sale for $500 off the Note 9 around this time last year.

Mobile phones have:
  1. an MSRP
  2. a carrier price without subsidy
  3. a true market value; Costco's offer is an example of this
#1 and #2 can be considered an introductory price, and thereafter a sucker's price. Because #3 goes down throughout the product's retail lifetime, #1 and #2, after the introductory months, are used mainly to trick or scare people into signing up for service contracts in order to get phone subsidies. The thing is, later in each phone model's retail lifetime, the subsidy is a con. You don't really save anything from the market value. But a high price tag from the carrier sure does compel people who lost or broke their expensive phone into renewing to avoid an unplanned expenditure.

The smart money is on looking for value pricing with an outright purchase, with the buyer understanding that their cost can be amortised in their own budget over the expected lifetime of the phone. That way, they can shop for a BYOP plan and not involve the carrier. Many credit cards offer insurance and warranty extension as well, so there is no need to be locked in to a carrier's offering here.
