Interesting …

Haven’t been to Yorkdale, or TO since before Covid

Does this mean that Yorkdale expanded their footprint / sq footage ?

Or are these new retailers moving into space vacated by others ?

Ya I read that bit … but NEW RETAIL SPACE could very well mean Retailers that are new to Yorkdale

Anyone actually live in the area and can elaborate on the mall itself … did they expand since I was last there in 2019 ?

I went last night. The line up wasn't bad. The line starts outside the mall on the north side by the SportsChek. Security will escort the line to two queues by the entrance. The place is busy and they do have more selection than typical Nike Stores, but I got 2 complaints: There's no more selection in activities. So it's more selection in running, basketball, training clothing, but still no other clothing for other sports like golf, tennis, soccer, etc. The shoes are still just training/running, basketball and lifestyle. Also the time to get in was 10-15 minutes, but the time to check out was horrendous. 30 minutes for me.

They do have some sneakers that don't exactly hold much resale value, but are sold out at most places. So if you're looking for: Air Max 90 Bacon, Space Jam Lebron Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote (also Bug Bunny/Marvin), Jordan 1 in Electro Orange, Rust Shadow and Fusion Red, Jordan 11 Jubilee, AF1 Experimental Postal, etc. They told me each day will have new sneakers that from past launches, so I guess worth checking out if you're a sneakerhead. I picked up the AM90 Bacon. That's been on my list to pick up for ages.

EDIT: Typo, It's the Air Max 90 Bacon.

Thanks for posting your experience. I wonder if it'll be less busy right when they open or if they're one of those stores where people start lining up really early for?

A car company went into Scarborough town for a short time. They did not last long. (I think it was Toyota?)

Car Companies moving into empty Mall Space is very common in the USA

It’s usually to highlight a particular model, or line

It’s different for sure … but not that far a stretch from the fact that Car Dealerships have been using mall hallway space since the beginning of time to showcase their latest models

More and more retailers are closing stores (eg. Disney) so the mall owners are happy to have something open in the space (ie car companies).

This is simply a RETAIL Nike store, correct? If I'm looking to pay retail prices ...

I have absolutely ZERO interest in purchasing a car or doing anything SERIOUS regarding car shopping, inside a mall. I hope it's working for the company.
AT MOST, I'd do a walk around, which doesn't bring in sales.

Malls don't care, just pay the bills guys, thanks! lol

Only a Torontonian would describe having to lineup all the way outside of a mall just for a chance to spend money at a retail store as "line up wasn't bad".

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. The line up outside was 3 people. Security will escort you from the line outside through the mall and to one of the two queues in front of Nike. The only reason the line was even out there was because they couldn't line up people past their store front.
I assume it's so you don't block other stores and with COVID you don't want lines snake through the mall. Total time 10-15 minutes. That's hardly a long wait given the crazy line ups that COVID has caused this year. Especially for a store that just opened.

Mostly I think it's somewhere the guys can hang out if the wife is in mall.
