You have a job because of the economy. Most people don't like a 15% unemployment rate.apnayloags wrote: ↑ Who cares about the economy. Let people save so govt doesn’t have to give cerb etc which is bigger than anything
The focus needs to shift from consumer based economy to something better. Treat gadgets and stuff like luxury. Priority to be food and shelter and healthcare before anything else.
The western worlds consumption economy has halted, down to human basics now
People need to smarten up and not be credit/interest slaves. Get rid of personal debts first, build saving and only then, splurge on luxury stuff

we are saving 1100 on childcare and both still working from home so we are quite fortunate. I haven't put gas in my car in almost 4 weeks, and still have half of a tank left, im using to driving 70km a day for work.
i also eat takeout a lot at work, and coffee a lot, i have been eating all meals and coffee at home (we had a few resteraunt meals brought home but not much)
eating more groceries for sure, but eating a lot better, and not wasting food.
we both work in legal and so far its fairly stable.

Income: no change (working from home)
Investment: down a bit (around -10% from ATH)
Spending less: gas, non-essential shopping, haven't been to Costco for more than a month
Spending more: utility bills, groceries because we can't pick and choose the stores with sale items anymore. i.e. yesterday we just paid $7 for a dozen eggs because they ran out of regular ones

Yes, ~$5K to furnish a 2nd office for the wife, in which she'll be able to expense some of it.PhotoSmurf wrote: ↑ Good point. Has anyone made a big ticket purchase recently?

we are about to drop 7-8k on decking materials/gazebo, we were going to do hot tub also, but instead we will site prep for a hot tub and get the tub later, mostly because we didn't realize the cost of a hot tub, I thought 4-5k, but it seems like I need to double that. we are considering adding Air Conditioning as well.PhotoSmurf wrote: ↑ Good point. Just received our credit card bill, 4 grocery pickups, tank of gas, and cellphone/internet bill for the whole month. Crazy how much we have saved by staying in, no dining transactions or kids activities which cost at least $100 each time. Not to mention $65/day daycare we are also saving.
