Thanks OP, this is a good price for the tool. For those unaware this tool is used to help you pull more consistent shots by providing a temperature reading as close to the grouphead as possible. It does not directly help you get a better shot of espresso per se, but is a very useful guide in helping bring more consistency from shot to shot if you're a user with consistent bar flow technique. Otherwise this is just a thermometer at a position as close as you can get to the water before it touches coffee grinds.

I will say that if you own or plan to own a heat exchanger espresso machine, this thermometer is a must have if you want to be make sure your cooling flushes are done correctly. At this price it's a steal.

Nice to see there are cheaper alternatives to the EricS thermometer now! My Rocket Giotto Evo has been cold for a long time now but I'm tempted to pick one up to replace my broken EricS if I ever get it running again!

I'm not sure how useful this is for my HX when I can't control the water temp. I guess it can tell me what the water temp is after a purge but to me it's less useful than if I could control water temp. Better to have more info than less as you try to dial in your shot right??

What machine you have that you cant control the water temp? If you have a pressurestat you can!

This for sure is a good price, i got the original one from US with the taylor thermometer... its good to know the temp.

Pre-PID Magister Stella. Budget HX and good bang for the buck. AFAIK I can't adjust the water temp but maybe not aware of where to adjust the temp.

Similar to this version, but have no PID.

It more than likely has a pressurestat... you can dial it up and down which will change your boiler pressure which will change your temp.

Tastes pretty good, I always give it a quick flush. I've been eyeing one for years, and now ones up for sale and not quite sure I need one lol.

I make at least 3 espresso or espresso based drinks/day for myself/family, and more with company. I recently got a Synch but I don't see any online owners having installed a temp sensor at the head. I'm assuming the PID temp is pretty accurate with the group head after required heat up and the usual pre-flush. If I later install flow control, I think it uses the same hex spot anyway. I mainly grind med and light roasts and will adjust the PID accordingly.

Sweet.

There is a pid offset you may want to do a flash boiling test to set it (if you haven't already). Flow control and temp do use the same spot so its one or the other.
Honestly on a DB machine temp stability is not that much of an issue as you have a dedicated brew boiler. If anything you wanna invest money on, get a grinder, unless you got a decent one already.

With flow control you will get lots of fun time changing the flavour profile, for light and med/light coffees brew pressure should be a bit lower than 9. For me the flow control is very attractive because i don't have to open the machine to change the brew and i can do it on the fly and play with simulating a lot of machines (manually)!

If it tastes good you are fine! But it doesnt hurt to get extra information on your shot.
