public mobile is like low tier cellphone plans. Zoomer is targeted mainly towards older people. Zoomer has options for hardware and they actually have a call center.

Under network coverage it says it's LTE. The public mobile are all 3G, that doesn't compare.

Im guessing this promo will last until black friday at least? I want to see what other carriers are going to offer. And yea the $36 plan looks like the best deal.

The only caution is if you are out of town. I got my father a Zoomer plan and he lives in White Lake (near Arnprior). The service in his area is hit and miss but in Ottawa, where I live, its great.

I would also add that their snowbird plans are great for people that don't use the phone much. Yes cheaper options are available but if you are older and want no hassles with changing sim cards or numbers they are reasonable and as mentioned have great service.

I'm a Zoomer customer for me and my wife. Here's why we initially signed up 2 years ago:

- We are on the Rogers network so have great coverage and have full LTE+ speed
- The price was fair compared to all the other carriers at the time - $36/month with 2GB of data and 400 canada wide minutes. It came with a cheapo $0 Huawei phone which I ended up selling for $220 each.
- After 6 months, Zoomer started adding 2GB of extra data free forever to the plans as a loyalty bonus, so it became a $36/month 4GB data, unlimited plan
- We later shifted over to $45/month 6GB unlimited minute plans
- No retention negotiations - you are eligible for the loyalty plans after being a customer for 6 months

Here are the downsides which you should consider if you are considering a move to Zoomer
- No VoLTE
- No Wifi calling
- No RCS from Zoomer directly (Google might fix this)
- No eSIM
- No app which you can install on your phone to quickly check your data usage. You have to sign into the web portal
- Mediocre travel plans
- Not a great selection of subsidized phones

Anyway I took all that into consideration when I first signed up 2 years ago (e.g. I don't talk on the phone that much so don't care about VoLTE or wifi calling really, and mostly use Whatsapp so RCS doesn't matter much). The new crop of loyalty plans at other carriers which offer all those features and more at the same or better price is making me consider switching away. As of now there's a few hoops to jump through to get same or equivalent plans.

Heh... I get hives whenever I hear a carrier telling me to "enable roaming", even when they tell me... "trust us... it won't cost any extra... ).

I'm not saying that it's not functional and legit... just that I don't trust not getting a surprise bill for an exorbitant data roaming fee.

Then it's ok, you don't need to benefit from this free feature. Your loss.

I've been with Zoomer for over 2 years now. Have nothing but good things to say about them. Great service, excellent area coverage for my needs, free phone every two years which I can sell or gift, great referral program.
If you still have doubts about should you switch to them or not - just do it. It's a smart decision.

I am coming up on my 2 yr anniversary with Zoomer - initially when I switched from Bell, the signal was crappy in my house especially since I have a metal roof.
Rogers have since added a cell tower about 2 kms from my house and the service is now great. (There's one spot on HWY 400 just north of the 401 in Toronto where I get dropped calls regularly)

The $36 dollar 4GB plan on a 2 year contract is probably the best value for money without having to jump through hoops / loopholes / loyalty and it's fair and available to EVERYONE!

I got the Hauwei P20 lite when I signed up and referred a coworker, sold the phone for $190 and received $50 referral credit.

Taking the $240 I received over 2 years, that's equivalent of saving $10 per month making my 2 year commitment on only $26 per month.

This is great! All the Koodo Wieners can now switch to Zoomer and leave Koodo Threads alone

Holy crap!

For those who is afraid of Rogers coverage, Zoomer also can go on Rogers extended coverage, aka Telus. I can manually select Telus on my phone and roam on it indefinitely. Although Telus has faster LTE speed than Rogers, because the APN is still with Rogers so the speed is still reasonably fast.

If you are just looking for the cheapest plan with data, PM is great. If you are looking for the cheapest plan with LTE and good coverage, Zoomer is the best.

On the other hand, Telus and Bell customers cannot roam on Rogers unless you are in designated areas.

I am not sure when Wifi calling or VoLTE is available, but I don't think the current handsets offered by Zoomer is as compatible anyways.

The one thing I did notice is the very limited selection of free phones for this particular $36 plan.
