Anyone install glass railings for a deck?

Looking to install glass railings, similar to below. Anyone know where to source this type of railing? I only need about ~15 linear ft, plus a set of railings going down three steps.

I've seen some at HD etc, and I don't mind having the alum frames around it, but the hard part is the stairs, or so a ~30* angle.
So maybe frameless? I've seen Richelieu sell the brackets, and Lowe's sells tempered glass. Only issue would be a custom piece for the stairs?
Thoughts?

Call Albion glass and ask if they'll sell cash & carry without installation. They'll cut it all to size for you, however they'll want to come measure and template to make sure they cut the angle just rights. This is not an off the shelf job. They also have a bunch of railing choices, I went in this week and they had a bunch out on their front lawn.

BTW that deck is absolutely terrible Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes, I hope yours is nicer.Smiling Face With Open Mouth

Thanks Cas, Albion did my glass shower at my last house. I'll call them for pricing.

My neighbor has glass railing and he said there are few birds flew into it and died every season. I like the look but concern about the maintenance to keep it clean.

We've been looking at glass railings for our balcony. I think the best ones are from Invisirail. We don't like the bulky aluminium posts/rails of others systems.

IMO, glass railing looks kinda ridiculous especially outside. They can also break or shatter. Maybe if you lived in Miami Beach or for a restaurant in To...

This. The previous owners of our house installed glass rails on the deck, and I like it as it leaves an open view to our ravine. However, in the fall, birds start flying low and hit the glass and die. The first fall we experienced this in the house, maybe 5 birds died? We ended up having to put tarps over the rails around September. It's a minor inconvenience, but something to note.

Maintenance? Pressure washer if you have one. I take some multipurpose cleaner and water to it in the spring.

We have them. Purchased Railmaster from HD. Do NOT pressure wash them!!! That is way too much pressure and you'll break them!

No dead birds. Easy enough to keep clean!

Thanks for the pics. Looks great!!
Did you use the glass panels in stock at HD? I will need special, order sizes for most panels.

Also, my deck has a 30* angle corner. How can I use these railings with an angle?

There is a universal connector kit that is used to attached railings to posts at stairs in the Railblazers system. That kit can be used with pivot mounted sideways when a deck corner is irregular (not 90*). Don't expect the kid in aisle at HD to know that, just have a look at pieces in bag and you will understand...the square is drilled so pin inserts sideways.

The large glass panels come in 6' and 4' lengths, they are actually 66" and 42" if that helps....you can play with gap btw posts and glass as rail sections are a true 6' and 4' lengths. There are also 6' length kits available that are 6" pieces, you can mix & match the 6" pieces.

Railblazer is a nice product, rock solid posts with nice detail. The quality of a custom system can be very good or lightweight and flimsy so don't just compare quotes by linear foot, go see and feel a display as Caz recommended if going that route.

Whichever product you select the most important part of the install is the post to deck. Use 2x blocking between joists and sink the post lag screws into that blocking and rim joist etc; through bolt kits/washers can move as deck boards cup....a 1/8 movement at the post base can put the top of post out 1/2".

Invisirail is very nice system, the price of materials is 3-4x cost of Railblazers. It is great to not have a railing, but of course you lose the protection a railing gives the the glass edge.

Its 3 + years ago but I had a difficult time with a building department having a permit approved for a member here. Railing system off the shelf from a big box store, had to contact Manufacturer and include stamped eng drawings for the railing system so ensure that is available (Canadian) for any railing system you purchase. The Canadian Eng documents are available for Invisirail.

I know what you mean. I hated the down vote option, it made people stop sharing info on the forum. I had 4 down votes in single 1 thread for trying to help. I stopped sharing info now.

I gave Caz an upvote to negate that but yeah, its insulting when a helpful post is down voted.

I'm sure they would.

Good point about approvals. I believe I did say they said they were approved for use on balconies, etc. but I could see an inspector questioning it.

Personally I'd prefer just to clean up the old wrought iron we currently have, which would be more work than installing a new railing. We could also buy new wrought iron but that appears to be very expensive.
With glass or aluminium railings, the only thing I don't like is how bulky the aluminium posts/rails are. Are there any systems with thinner components?

Can a system like this be installed on a patio that is not level?

I have a 2 level stamped concrete patio in the backyard and the second level is a little high. The problem is the concrete guys put more of a grade on the surface then I would have picked. So if I installed the system as is, I'm worried you'll be able to tell by just lookin at it that the posts aren't vertical
