Dell computer setup without MS account

Hi,

I'm setting up my new Dell PC and, in the process, it ask to login in a MS account. I'm not a big fan of being connected and I'm sure I saw there's a way to bypass this but after I looked in the options I cannot find anything. Am I missing something?

thanks
.

Use an email address that does not exist or disable internet connection

On my Lenovo I kept skipping the login question. Still no issues after almost a year. Windows does occassionally pop up a window asking me to login, but again I just ignore it.

The login isn't a terrible idea. Make a new email account specifically for your Windows PC and only use that.

Just unplug the computer front the internet or dont connect it to wifi. Then at the bottom left corner it should say, continue without internet. you need to do that maybe twice (as it will restart) then you can login to desktop with no MS account and at that point you connect the computer to the internet.

I vaguely recall that pressing the Login (or sign in) button 3-5 times with empty fields will give an option to proceed without MS account.

I don’t think that option is available on W11 Home.

Use the account a@a.com and use a password of your choice. Microsoft will say that the account is disabled and you will be able to create a local account.

Worked for me with windows 11

Try hitting alt+f4 when it asks you to login to a Microsoft account.

While there is a very convoluted way to disable your network connection at a specific point in order for Windows 11's out-of-box-experience to give up and prompt you to set up a Local Account, @stooker 's method above is quick and easy. I have confirmed that it works.

Disable network connection? Unplug the cable.

I also had this problem when setting up a Dell, which I was not used to from my usual self built installs. I cannot remember if disconnecting from the internet solved it, or some of the other suggestions here. But in the end I decided to make a new MS dummy account I will keep handy for installations in the future. Then after you can remove it.

If you unplug your cable, the setup allows you only up to a point. After selecting country and keyboard layout, it requires you to connect to the Internet to continue. You will see a network selection screen, and there is only a Next button that is greyed out. There is no obvious way to skip it. See Pic 1

To skip it, you can press Shift-F10 to get a Command Prompt, launch Task Manager by typing taskmgr, click the More Details button at the lower left corner. In the Processes tab, look for Network Connection Flow, select that and click End Task at the lower right to kill it. Once that's done, you will get a prompt that says Enter your name. At which point you enter your local user name. You can then provide a blank password so you won't get prompted for the stupid security questions and continue to set up the rest.

I assumed the OP has Windows 11 Home, as he said he there was no obvious way to bypass it, I was just pointing out how Windows 11 behaves, and that @stooker 's workaround works with no hassle.

If it was Windows 11 Pro, it will actually give you an option that you don't have Internet and you can then click on it to skip MSA login and create a local user account. See Pic 2 as indicated by the purple arrow.

Actually, you need press Alt F4 when it asks you to select a wireless network. It will then allow you to create a local account.
