The LG WashTower seems to have pretty good reviews. While it technically comes as one piece/can only be operated that way, it can be separated to make it easier if you need to take it up / down stairs for delivery purposes.

It looks good (not that I really care that much), but more importantly, it has a very unique/smart design. The problem with most stackable units is that the controls on the top unit (the dryer) can be difficult to reach for some people. In addition, it is often that the display panel / knobs on the top unit will be angled upwards, adding to the usability issues (i.e. cannot read the status / time remaining). Since the WashTower's controls are in the centre, controls for both the washer and dryer are within easy reach.

Also, most units that come has a single unit have a smaller capacity (though most of the stackable separate units available now are decently sized). I think the WashTower can be had in sizes almost up to 6.0 cubic feet for the washer.

I don't think the cost of the WashTower is that much more (if any - maybe it's even less) than buying 2 completely separate units.

I believe Samsung has units that can stack and has a similar capability (but you have to buy an optional kit), however, the consensus seems to be that Samsung appliances do not last very long and no one seems to recommend buying them.

I went through this process a couple of weeks ago. It is very confusing with all the options out there.

I considered the LG WashTower too until I read a discussion thread (not sure if I’m allowed to link to it since it’s not RFD) about how the controls are very restrictive (difficult or even impossible to customize the cycles). I haven’t seen these in real life, but many users agreed so that scared me off the WashTower. I don’t need/want the smart features on washer/dryer and prefer configurability.

I ended up getting the Electrolux series 5 from Costco and I’m very happy with them so far. I didn’t realize at the time I ordered that these are not wifi-enabled. That’s actually a plus in my book. Fewer things to break. This is a stacked set (not one piece) but I don’t find the control of the dryer too high to reach, and I’m petite.

The one you linked to is Electrolux series 6, has more features than series 5, but if I remember correctly it has an automatic detergent dispenser and fewer compartments in the detergent tray, whereas series 5 has more compartments (I like manually controlling these things).

Can you share why you went with ordering from Costco versus going to a store like Home Depot? I heard Home Depot price matches + gives you 10% more discount.

What’s the best choice for washer and dryer from Costco please? Many people said avoid Samsung. My last Samsung washer broke within 4 years too. Another poster said Electrolux is good. Much appreciated for any pointers or any other rfd old links.

I originally was planning on an LG set and did a price comparison between Costco and Home Depot. The item prices after discount at Home Depot were the same as Costco ones BUT they would charge a fee for stacking. I can’t remember if haulaway was included or extra. It also wasn’t clear to me if Home Depot would provide hoses or not. Costco price was all inclusive and they provide stainless steel braided hoses. There is also an additional 1 year warranty from Costco making it 2 years in total (probably easier than credit card extended warranty).

I think on the Electrolux set I got, the Costco price was lower than elsewhere. I can’t remember if Home Depot had the same set or not, but after the above comparison, I just went with the all-inclusive and simpler option.

Costco extended warranty is also cheaper I believe. I didn’t go for that though.

Hard to say what the “best” choice is. It depends on your requirements. Wifi or no wifi? Auto-dispenser or no? Single unit or separate? With LG there was also the question of TurboWash or not - I flip-flopped on this for a while then got sick of it and decided no LG! Also because the matching LG dryer was out of stock - I would have had to wait 2 months. Electrolux options were easier to decide for me. I found a good Electrolux model comparison link, I can try to find it again and share tomorrow if you’re interested.

Yes, please share. I'm leaning towards Electrolux so the comparison link would be helpful

Found it: https://blog.bellinghamelectric.com/blo ... es-pricing

I actually was wrong about the series 6 washer having auto-dispenser tray. It looks the same as my series 5. This must be something I read about LG or GE that I considered before settling on Electrolux. See, confusing!

So on paper, no reason not to get series 6 if your budget allows. To me the price difference at Costco between the 5 and 6 was too much for the features I probably wouldn’t need, and I actually prefer the white set (suits my laundry room better than titanium).

Following because I’m invested in having an Electrolux buddy now! :D

I will add to what I’ve said in the other thread, regarding a stacked set vs. a single unit regardless of brands. When one piece of the set fails beyond repair, you can replace just that piece or sell the other piece and buy a new set. With single unit, you might have a hard time finding people who would buy it just for the working half, so it’s most likely trash.

I don't have access to the actual ratings, but FWIW, my understanding is that several of the LG models have placed in Consumer Reports' top 10 washers/dryers. Never had LG but apparently reliability is good for LG appliances in general.

Reliability is good … is only half the story

LG Appliances are hit or miss
So reading Reviews & Ratings is a good thing

Downside …
LG is notorious for not stocking parts for past models
Cuz they are new model centric

So … long term longevity of an appliance is still an issue

@AnnCook regarding your links …

When it comes to Retailers …
Costco for the win (doesn’t matter which brand you ultimately buy )
Costco is currently the best place for big ticket purchases … including appliances
As they offer the best
Price - Price Guarantee - Returns / Regular Warranty - Extended Warranty (longer than other places) - Delivery (to the room vs curbside) - and After Sales Service
As well as Haulaway
And Installation (this one for a fee )

DO NOT BUY FROM THE BRICK
For sooooo many reasons
You can read WHY all over RFD
Or just GOOGLE for more info … including info on court cases etc

Basically …
It’s a case of it looks cheaper at first glance

But in the end HD, Lowe’s, etc
Will nickel and dime you for all the add ons you need besides just the purchase

Hoses, Delivery, Returns, Warranties, Haulaway etc

Whereas Costco is more inclusive in their pricing (read my post to you in your other thread on Retailers Costco vs The Brick )

Some would argue …
But ya you pay $ 60 for a Costco Annual Membership upfront
True if you don’t already belong
But … you could EASILY SAVE $ 60 on this one item alone … once you look at all the differences for the add ons from HD vs included from Costco

Also … if you have the Costco Exec Membership *
You earn 2% Cash Back on your purchase

* AND … if you don’t earn the $ 60 Cash Back for the year (difference between Basic & Exec Membership)
Costco will refund you back your $ 60 … so it’s risk free that way

Not comparing apples to apples.

You're comparing stackable units to a single tower. I would always buy two separate units, that way if one breaks, it's easier (and costs less) just to replace the one. LG makes great washers & dryers, but buy them as separate units.

And I agree with everything @PointsHubby says.
Tis banana is IRIE 😎

10% off is cold, 50% off is warm, 75% off is hot, but FREE IS RFD!

Why did OP make two threads about the same topic?

Wanted to compare the two models. When I posted this post, I hadn't looked into the exact models I wanted to compare yet. Second post is to get attention of folks who have either bought or have looked into either while landing on something else.

Didn't think I needed to explain myself for posting but hope this helps answer your question.

Home Depot refused a price match because the price had a discount on it that they said they wouldn't recognize.
I ended up buying my LG washer from Best Buy for an awesome price ($726 all-in).

Side note: I wonder if Speed Queen makes stackables.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.
