What is the best value Desktop deal around?

So the motherboard on my home built pc died. I was looking at used components to resurrect it but I am beginning to think a new desktop might be the better approach. My desktop was an old i7 with DDR2 and it was probably 10-11 years old. At home we still have a 12 year old who plays primarily Roblox and Minecraft. I imagine she may try different games in the next 6 years.

My thinking was that resurrecting the current desktop is likely going to cost $500-$600. I would have to replace, at the very least, motherboard, cpu and memory. Then that would leave me running with an old video card (Radeon HD 6850). If within a year or 2 I had to replace that I might be better replacing the whole PC now.

I have been looking at the following:

This Dell XPS Special edition for $1050
Or this Dell XPS for $1500

I am sure I don't actually need those video cards but they would leave me with some capacity for other games my 12 year old may want to try.

Any comments or suggestions?

Hey, first of all the 6850 is definitely dated and will bottleneck any new game your son wants to play and he 100% won't have a good time outside Minecraft/Roblox.

The Dell XPS special edition is extremely pricey for what you get, but the Dell XPS one for $1500 isn't much better in terms of specs.

Right now you are going to pay a hefty premium due to the chip/GPU shortage. It may be better for you to piece it out and build to be honest.

I have had good luck searching on facebook marketplace for savings on every component except for the latest gpus. Obviously ymmv, but try looking there for any decent PCs you can salvage components out of. Ebay is also good too provided you are looking for components other than gpu and are not looking for the latest gen. If you are looking for only gpu, the used market or lining up outside of bestbuy when gpu drops occur is the only way to go. Be wary of scalpers (i.e. price gougers) if you are looking for the current gen gpus on the used market. Who knows, you may find some gtx 780s or 900 series floating around facebook marketplace at decent prices, which are great for playing minecraft and roblox, and good for playing relatively new games at 1080p.

I recommend going with but the prices were the lowest I saw so YMMV but anything close should be good.

AMD 5600g - $269.99
MSI Tomahawk B450 II - $100
Corsair 16GB LPX CL16 Ddr4 - $85

Now you just need to find a hard drive or SSD, power supply and case.

You will be ready to go. If u want to go real cheap you can look into reusing monitor, keyboard, mouse and possibly case.

You will need a good power supply. All in you can do this for about $600-800.

Google 5600g for gaming.
