Where can I buy used tools?

I used to buy used tool at Stouffville Country Market, but now it's closed. Anywhere in GTA can I find used tools, all kinds of tools commonly used at home. Recently I started to repair old cars and found myself buy thousands of dollars new tools.

Flea markets may have hot goods.

I'd go to thrift shops. Habitat for Humanity ReStores usually have a lot though prices vary by chapter.

By luck, I have been fortunate enough to not have any of my tools stolen, but I have known almost countless contractors who have had either their tools stolen, or their whole trailer ransacked.

Based on this I would never buy a tool on Kijiji, Craiglist, etc. Especially if the tools are BNIB.

The amount of times I've been in a HD/Lowes parking lot later at night and had a guy roll up to be and offer me BNIB tools for super cheap is also crazy surprising.

Buying a good heavily used tool off someone is fine, but new tools that you're getting substantially cheaper just doesn't compute. They are stolen, that's it.

If you can trust the source, or its a specialized tool that someone bought for a few jobs, actually used it, and now is getting rid of it, that could make sense too. But generally speaking for items like this, you can almost buy the tool on sale for cheaper than the used version most of the time.

Just take a look at HD, Lowes, Atlas, etc etc, return policies. It is super easy to return a tool or product. Compare this to the number of BNIB tools floating around out there, and yeah, the math is pretty simple.

Anyways, that's my quick rant, please don't buy stolen stuff and encourage the cycle to keep going.

Patently false for one specific reason... tool companies often give their employees tools to test and try out. Many of them dont bother and instead sell them on the open market.

My wife worked at Dewalt and got free stuff, I worked at Ryobi (before it was Ryobi/Ridgid/Milwaukee) and got free stuff. Some we used, some we sold.

I know of a slew of other reasons hardware company employees get free tools on the up and up I wont bother to go into.

other reasons off the top of my head
- Cleared the store out of that rfd hot deal the selling on Kijiji
- Pick up that hot deal then decide to sell after a few years sitting in the box. That reminds me, I need to list my BNIB $50 drywall lift I picked up about 10 years ago ;)
- Family member dies and leaves load of tools, some of which are BNIB
- Seller is lying and that BNIB tool is actually lightly used

BNIB is not the same but lightly used tools can be totally legit. Obviously if you see that the seller has >50 tools to sell, they might be stolen. But if he is selling only a few, it is likely legit. I bought a pex crimping tool to replace my water heater and then I used it again to replace a faucet. I will keep it because it is handy but I could very well sell it since the job is now done and it would be legit. In fact, I bought it from Amazon cheaper because of "aesthetic damage" but it was like new. I am sure someone bought it to do a job and then returned it once the work was done.
Try not! Do or do not, there is no try...

oh, man, this place is weird, sounds like looking for hot deals is more honorable than used tools.

Sure it does. One time after I left Ryobi someone stole an entire CONTAINER of recip saws in San Francisco right off the dock. Later they were for sale at XcessCargo In Canada (I saw them in Burlington) and the police came and confiscated them. This was before Ryobi sold outside of the Depot (they used to actually destroy tools vs refurb them based on their deal with HD, now they officially sell refurbs in the US)
